Nathan is IEMA’s Facility Closure and Transition Service Line Leader, specialising in mine closure, rehabilitation and closure cost estimation. He supports clients across coal, metalliferous, industrial and port sectors to plan for and deliver practical, regulator-ready closure outcomes.
Nathan has a strong track record in the preparation of Mine Closure Plans, Rehabilitation Management Plans, rehabilitation cost estimates, and rehabilitation risk assessments across a wide range of operations in NSW and beyond. He has worked across all stages of closure, from conceptual planning through pre-feasibility and feasibility to execution and relinquishment, delivering robust, integrated closure strategies aligned with regulatory requirements and operational realities.
He is recognised for his expertise in rehabilitation liability assessment and cost estimation, including the development of statutory cost estimates and financial assurance tools for both industry and government. Nathan also brings experience in regulator engagement, auditing and compliance, and has held roles as an approved Environmental Auditor and Environmental Representative.
He holds a Master of Environmental Management and a Bachelor of Science (Geography), along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control. He is an Exemplar Global certified Lead Auditor for ISO 14001 and has completed specialist training in rehabilitation cost estimation for the resources industry.
Outside of work, Nathan enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities and is a keen runner and adventure racer, regularly participating in events ranging from parkrun through to ultra marathons and expedition races.
