Our Values: Community, Environment, Health & Safety
COMMUNITY
Community is a key pillar of our business.
As part of our Community Involvement Plan, IEMA has engaged in several initiatives:
- Every month, all employees are encouraged to spend two work hours supporting a charity of their choice.
- Each quarter, we nominate a preferred charity to receive our company donation.
- We sponsor a child through World Vision.
- We have raised over $10,000 for Lymphoma Australia and Oxfam through fundraising and donations.
- We support Meals on Wheels on a weekly basis, helping to deliver meals to the most vulnerable members of our community.
- We are a Corporate Partner of the Hunter Wildfires Rugby Union club, which competes in the Shute Shield (men) and Jack Scott Cup (women). Our goal is to support local talent, enabling them to stay local and compete in premier Club Rugby Union competitions.
ENVIRONMENT
The environment is at the core of our lives and work.
We are committed to transparency in our sustainability journey, as we strive to minimise our carbon footprint and promote nature-positive outcomes.
Since our inception, we have been committed to operating as a carbon neutral business. We do this by working with NetNada to calculate our carbon footprint annually and engaging in accredited carbon offsetting programs. We calculate and offset 100% of our carbon emissions, including those of our suppliers.
Highlights from our 2024 Carbon Emissions Report are as follows:
- Scope 1: 12.532 tCO₂e – Emissions from our direct operations.
- Scope 2: 10.887 tCO₂e – Emissions from purchased electricity to power our office, heating, lighting, etc. In 2024, we transitioned to 100% renewable energy sources.
- Scope 3: 192.882 tCO₂e – Emissions from our supply chain. In 2024, we challenged our top 10 suppliers to help us manage Scope 3 emissions through minimisation and offsetting, as part of our efforts to reduce collective emissions.
We challenge our peers to calculate and publish their carbon emissions and join us in our commitment to a sustainable future.
SAFETY
IEMA is absolutely committed to the health, safety, and security of our employees, as well as the communities and environments in which we work.
We have developed and operate risk-based Safety Management Systems that complement the systems maintained by our clients.
All IEMA employees and contractors are responsible for safety in the workplace, during transit, and on project sites. Their duties include:
- Promoting and applying both IEMA and our clients’ specific Work Health and Safety procedures, while maintaining a high level of safety awareness at all times.
- Undertaking Risk Assessments using the principles of the Hierarchy of Controls to design and implement measures that minimize risks to all personnel.
- Identifying, communicating, and participating in safety training.
- Assisting in the identification and preparation of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMSs), including using safe equipment and plant, and adhering to safe work practices at all times.
- Reporting and participating in hazard, incident, and near-miss investigations, as well as safety meetings and programs.
- Ensuring that all IEMA employees and contractors receive the necessary induction training and appointments for the specific mine sites on which they are working.
