Rhys has experience across the mining, construction, infrastructure and agricultural sectors. He specialises in mine rehabilitation and closure planning, environmental management systems, and environmental compliance and reporting, with a strong focus on delivering practical, regulator-ready outcomes for clients across Australia.
He has extensive experience preparing Rehabilitation Management Plans, Forward Work Plans, Mine Closure Plans and Rehabilitation Cost Estimates for a range of mining operations. He is recognised for his practical understanding of rehabilitation and closure requirements, combining operational site experience with strong technical and analytical capability to support achievable, staged pathways to closure.
Prior to joining IEMA, Rhys worked in a range of site-based environmental roles across major mining and infrastructure projects. Through these roles, he developed strong expertise in environmental monitoring systems, erosion and sediment control, noise and vibration management, vegetation clearing, incident response, stakeholder engagement and environmental compliance management in complex operational environments.
He also has extensive experience in environmental reporting, environmental management systems and GIS-based spatial analysis, and has supported a broad range of mining, construction and agricultural projects throughout New South Wales and across Australia. He is particularly interested in mine closure strategy, rehabilitation risk management, environmental data analysis and practical environmental solutions that balance operational and regulatory requirements.
Outside of work, Rhys enjoys running, travelling and spending time outdoors.
