Spatial Data Management & Regulatory Reporting Support for Ulan Coal Mine

  • Client: Ulan Coal Mine

Summary

IEMA has provided ongoing spatial data management and regulatory reporting support for Ulan Coal Mine, ensuring compliance with NSW Resources Regulator requirements. The project involved consolidating and updating historical spatial datasets and developing spatial outputs to support rehabilitation reporting and rehabilitation cost estimation.

The Objective

Ulan Coal Mine engaged IEMA to improve the quality, consistency, and usability of its spatial data for regulatory reporting and rehabilitation management purposes. Key objectives included establishing a reliable “source of truth” dataset, preparing spatial data suitable for upload to the NSW Resources Regulator portal, and supporting rehabilitation planning through the development of compliant reporting figures, and cost estimation datasets.

Our Response

Our Response

IEMA completed a comprehensive review and update of the mine’s spatial datasets, consolidating historical information into up to date, consistent datasets with improved attribute accuracy and structure. Our team converted spatial data into regulator-compliant formats for portal submission and developed Annual Rehabilitation Report Plans, Forward Program Plans, Rehabilitation Management Plan figures, the Final Landform and Rehabilitation Plan (FLRP) as well as the spatial data supporting the Rehabilitation Objectives and Completion Criteria. We also implemented improved spatial data templates and processes to support the Rehabilitation Cost Estimate and ongoing data management.

The Impact

The Impact

The project delivered a streamlined and reliable spatial data framework that supports regulatory reporting efficiency and data integrity across the operation. By establishing a consolidated “source of truth” dataset and producing regulator-ready spatial outputs, Ulan Coal Mine gained improved confidence in rehabilitation planning, reporting compliance, and rehabilitation cost estimation processes.
